FREE INSTRUCTION - Instruction is also available by attending the Metchosin Rug Hooking group, the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month, September to May. This is an informal setting and instruction is provided in weekly segments. Kits must be purchased from the instructor prior to beginning the group.

Learn to rug hook in your choice of a pictorial design.
Students will learn to hook a 14" x 14"
rug in fabric or yarn suitable for making into a small mat, pillow, or wall-hanging. Students may design their own rug (must be on suitable backing) or purchase a beginner design from several available. For suitable designs that involve primarily outlining and filling, go to beginner designs.
In this class, students will learn:
- how to cut fabric into strips without a fabric cutter,
- basic techniques of rug hooking (hooking a sraight line, angles, curves, circles),
- basic elements of color theory that will make your rug "pop",
- the basics of hooking a pictorial rug,
- how to choose good fabric for recycling into rugs,
- finishing techniques.
Supplies required: Large and small scissors, ruler, 1/4 yd of black or other suitable color for outlining (available from instructor), an assortment of various colors of fabric or yarn (available from instructor); a large hoop or frame (may be found in a thrift shop or available from instructor), and a rug hook (available from instructor).

in a primitive style. The design is on a large piece of burlap that can be developed into a small floor or table mat as illustrated. The cost is $60.00 plus $25.00 for a kit that includes the
design on burlap and wool strips. Students will need to bring large and
small scissors, a ruler, a large quilting or embroidery hoop 14" (may be
purchased from instructor), a rug hook (also available for purchase from
instructor) and lunch.
